Despite soon becoming the first Australian-born Queen of Denmark, Crown Princess Mary has been left off the guest list of a pivotal event.

It has been announced by the Palace that Mary will not be present at the formal abdication of Queen Margarethe, which will see her husband Crown Prince Frederik officially become King Frederik X of Denmark.

The private meeting, which will be taking place tomorrow at midnight in Australian time, will only be attended by Margrethe, Frederik, Prince Christian, who will then become Crown Prince Christian, and members of the Council of State.

The Council of the State is made up of the current monarch, their heir and all current members of the Danish cabinet, and serves as a body of advisers to the monarch.

Neither Mary's name nor title was included in the list of attendees.

She will be joining her husband and son soon after, however, when the couple will be hosting a small function for specially invited guests, before Frederik is officially proclaimed King of Denmark by the Prime Minister of Denmark and making a speech from the palace balcony.
