Princess Charlene makes first public appearance with Prince Albert since treatment for 'exhaustion'

Princess Charlene of Monaco has made her first public appearance in six months.

The 44-year-old stepped out for the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday alongside her husband Prince Albert II, 68 and their two twins Princes Jacques and Princess Gabriella, 7.

This marks the first time Charlene has stepped out publicly since being treated for "exhaustion" in Switzerland.

Charlene was admitted to a private health clinic in Switzerland in November. At the time, Prince Albert said his wife was suffering a condition he described as "exhaustion, both emotional and physical".

Charlene had returned to the principality on November 8 after spending six months in her native South Africa.

She had been in Africa after suffering complications from a procedure in Monaco, and contracting an infection while abroad.

She was unable to fly on doctors' orders, missing the couple's 10th wedding anniversary in July 2021.

Her brief to Monaco in November return "went pretty well in the first few hours, and then it became pretty evident that she was unwell," Albert said.

Charlene's condition, he said, was the result "of several factors which are private matters."

"She was clearly exhausted, physically and emotionally. She was overwhelmed and couldn't face official duties, life in general or even family life.

"Obviously there were consequences of her different surgeries and the procedures she underwent in the last few months.

"That certainly was a factor, but at this point I prefer not to comment further. I can say she was suffering incredible fatigue."

Princess Charlene hasn't attended a royal event since January 2021.

Charlene's long absence from Monaco, and her family, last year lead to rumours about problems within the royal marriage which Prince Albert has strenuously denied.

In November, Prince Albert told People: "I'm probably going to say this several times, but this has nothing to do with our relationship.

"I want to make that very clear. These are not problems within our relationship; not with the relationship between a husband and wife. It's of a different nature."

The most recent update from the Prince's Palace about Princess Charlene's health came in March.

In a statement the palace confirmed Charlene had returned to Monaco where she was to continue her "convalescence in the Principality with her husband and her children by her side".
