How Kate and William escaped with their children for an island holiday amid UK lockdown

Prince William and Kate Middleton managed to escape for a brief island holiday with their three children this week, despite looming UK lockdowns.

The royals and their children – Prince George, seven, princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two – made the most of the elder children's 'half-term' break from school.

But rather than jetting off to Mustique, a tropical island favoured by the royals, the Cambridge family chose to holiday much closer to home.

They spent a down-to-earth week "staycationing" on the Isles of Scilly, just off the coast of Cornwall, England.

A much more relaxed vacation spot than one would expect from members of the monarchy, the family allegedly rented a quaint four-bedroom cottage for their stay.

Locals told The Sun that William and Kate kept to themselves during their holiday and seemed like the picture perfect "normal family" despite their royal titles.

The Cambridges have since returned home and are expected to settle in at Kensginton Palace ahead of George and Charlotte's return to school next week.

The two elder Cambridge children attend Thomas' Battersea school in London, which is expected to remain open despite looming lockdowns across England and the UK.

With coronavirus cases still rising in Britain, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced new measures for a four-week lockdown across England.

Pubs and restaurants, along with non-essential shops, will be forced to close and social distancing will be strictly enforced.

Residents are being warned to stay at home, leaving only for approved reasons such as work or school.

The royals will be expected to follow these rules to, as they're required to set an example for other Brits by sticking to coronavirus restrictions.

Though William and Kate had been slowly returning to face-to-face engagements, it's possible they will transition back to virtual events for the coming weeks.

Meanwhile their children, who are expected to attend school in person, could also return to online classes if lockdown restrictions change in response to a spike in cases.
