Prince William and David Attenborough's five-part nature documentary series to premiere in October

Prince William and David Attenborough's five-part nature series The Earthshot Prize: Repairing Our Planet will premiere in Australia in October.

Focusing on five Earthshots — protecting and restoring nature, cleaning our air, reviving our oceans building a waste-free world, and fixing our climate — the series aims to delve deep into the greatest environmental challenges facing the planet, and explore potential solutions.

"Over half a century ago, President Kennedy's 'Moonshot' programme united millions of people around the goal of reaching the moon," the Duke of Cambridge said.

"Inspired by this, The Earthshot Prize aims to mobilise collective action around our unique ability to innovate, problem solve and repair our planet."

The Earthshot Prize was launched in October 2020 by Prince William and The Royal Foundation.

Featuring the duke, Sir David Attenborough, and members of The Earthshot Prize Council, the series highlights the challenges facing the planet alongside the 15 Earthshot Prize finalists, who have innovated ground-breaking solutions to the aforementioned environmental challenges.

"I am honoured to introduce the 15 innovators, leaders, and visionaries who are the first ever Finalists for The Earthshot Prize," Prince William said.

"They are working with the urgency required in this decisive decade for life on Earth and will inspire all of us with their optimism in our ability to rise to the greatest challenges in human history."

William is not the only royal to have partnered with a television giant recently.

His brother, Prince Harry alongside the Duchess of Sussex made a production deal with Netflix last year.

"It's gonna be epic entertainment — so excited about that deal," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said at the time.

The multi-year, multi-million-dollar deal will see the Sussexes produce documentaries, films, scripted shows and children's programming.

"I think it'll be some of the most exciting, most viewed content next year," Hastings said.

The Earthshot Prize: Repairing Our Planet will premiere on Discovery on Saturday, October 24, at 2.50pm AEDT.
