Like the rest of us, the royal family is leaving what was a tumultuous 2024 behind them and are looking ahead to the future.

But not before reflecting on the best parts of the year.

Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales shared a carousel of the best moments of 2024 with the caption, "2024 ✅ Happy New Year! Wishing you all a wonderful 2025 ✨"

Kensington Palace has released the annual Christmas photo of the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. William Catherine Kate George Charlotte Louis

First to be Included in their highlights was the video the family released once Kate had officially finished her treatment for her cancer.

Other highlights included Prince William's trip to South Africa for the Earthshot Prize, meeting with members of the Emergency Services during a visit to Southport Community Centre after three children were killed during a stabbing attack at a Southport dance school.

It also included Kate's annual Together at Christmas concert, Trooping the Colour, meeting Taylor Swift, and more.

But the last slide seemed especially heartfelt, featuring the shot of Kate hugging teenage photographer Liz Hatton.

The photo attracted attention for being the first photo seen of the Princess of Wales interacting with a member of the public after she announced her return to royal duties.

Hatton was at Windsor Castle to photograph a ceremony as part of her bucket list, which she formed after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer and was given between six months and three years to live.

The shot of the 17-year-old hugging the 42-year-old, who herself had just undergone her own cancer battle, was particularly meaningful, especially so since it was included as the last highlight on the Wales couple's list.

Unfortunately, Hatton lost her battle on November 27, with her mum, Vicky Roboyna, confirming the sad news on X, saying her daughter "remained determined to the last".

In January 2024, it was announced that Kate would be undergoing a planned abdominal surgery, being hospitalised at the same time as her father-in-law, King Charles III.

After being absent from the public eye and following much speculation, Catherine revealed in March she was undergoing "preventative chemotherapy" treatment following a cancer diagnosis.

She has made the occasional public appearance over the year, only recently returning to royal duties after completing chemotherapy.
