Details of the Queen's final preparations for Prince Philip's funeral emerge

With Prince Philip's funeral just hours away in the UK, the Queen has been making her final preparations for the event.

Her Majesty will farewell her husband of 73 years in a scaled back service, following Philip's death on April 9, 2021, aged 99.

As well as overseeing preparations for the funeral and making key decisions about the services, guest lists and what fellow royals would wear, Her Majesty also attended to personal preparations.

On Friday, she reportedly worked with her and dresser Angela Kelly to select an outfit for the solemn occasion.

She also went for a haircut that same day, according to The Mirror.

"The Queen will be relying heavily on Angela Kelly for support today. And she is going to be visited by her hairdresser Ian Carmichael'," a source told the outlet on Friday.

Despite the sad occasion, the source said that the Queen is "bearing up well" after her husband's death and is "in control" ahead of the funeral.

She will reportedly have to sit alone during the ceremony due to social distancing restrictions, but will be supported by other senior royals at the funeral.

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to be in attendance.

Prince Harry also returned to the UK for the first time since his March 2020 royal split to support his grandmother and pay his respects to Philip.

The Duke of Sussex has been in isolation for five days at Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, but will be allowed to leave quarantine to attend the funeral on compassionate grounds.

But the Queen will take one final moment with Prince Philip before joining her family for the funeral.

It is understood that Her Majesty will take a small pause with Philip's coffin before the procession at the start of the funeral.

After over seven decades of marriage, royal commentator Katie Nicholl told 9Honey that the Queen was "prepared" for Philip's death.

Nicholl said Her Majesty is "used to operating solo" and will have "the support of her family" as she farewells Philip today.

But after more than seven decades together, Nicholl says the loss of her beloved husband "will take its toll on her".

"I think it will be very important that she has the support of her family and they will stand in and they will be there for her, to make sure she's supported."
