Harry and Meghan fired Archie's night nurse after 'incident' in first days on the job

Though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been fairly tight-lipped about their experience of parenthood, some details have trickled out via royal commentators.

A new documentary offers even more more titbits about the couple's life as Mum and Dad, including their decision to fire a night nurse over an "incident" on the job.

Appearing on A Very Royal Baby: From Cradle to Crown, royal author Omid Scobie claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had wanted some help in establishing a sleep pattern for son Archie following his birth in 2019.

"Very few people know the real story behind it," Scobie, who co-authored the Sussex biography Finding Freedom, said.

"After Archie's arrival, Harry and Meghan wanted some help to establish a sleep pattern. They hired a night nanny.

"Whilst I can't go into someone else's employment details for legal reasons, it was an incident on one of the first nights that put the couple off from having a night nurse."

This wasn't the first time Scobie had referenced the incident; it was explored in slightly more detail in Finding Freedom.

"Meghan and Harry were forced to let the nurse go in the middle of her second night of work for being unprofessional and irresponsible," the book claimed.

According to Scobie and co-author Carolyn Durand, Harry and Meghan then hired a second night nurse, who did a "fine job".

However, they were so rattled by their first experience, they ended up opting for a daytime nanny and taking control of the nighttime routine themselves.

"Neither found themselves comfortable sleeping through the night without going to check on Archie regularly."

In A Very Royal Baby, airing on the UK's Channel 4, Scobie also addressed the response to Meghan's New York baby shower within the palace.

The event was held at a lavish Manhattan hotel, attended by some of Meghan's most famous friends including Serena Williams, Amal Clooney and Gayle King.

The duchess' solo trip to the US attracted plenty of media attention, not to mention scrutiny from commentators — and, it seems, in 'The Firm' itself.

Scobie recalled speaking to a palace aid about the baby shower at the time, saying they "rolled their eyes".

"They were horrified that something so common was happening within the House of Windsor," he said, adding the event was "as far from British tradition as you can get".

"We had never seen someone throw this very lavish affair to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby."

It's not known whether the duchess is planning a baby shower ahead of the arrival of the couple's daughter in the coming weeks.

Some reports claim Meghan doesn't want one as it "doesn't feel appropriate" in the current climate, while others suggest she'll opt for a more low-key event this time but keep the details out of the public sphere.

The Sussexes' daughter is due in the US summer, meaning she could arrive as early as next month. She'll be the first British royal family member born in the US.
