Prince Harry shuts down Namibia honeymoon rumour

The Duke of Sussex has quashed the popular rumour that he and his new wife Meghan Markle honeymooned in the African country of Nambibia.

Prince Harry and Meghan, who were married in May, attended an awards event for the Queen’s Young Leaders on June 26.

At the ceremony, Mavis Elias, a young philanthropist from Namibia, asked the prince if he had visited her country for the honeymoon.

He told her “No, we didn’t go to Namibia.”

“I’m not going to say where,” he continued with a gesture to the media watching close by.

The now-quashed rumours stated that the newlywed couple would holiday at Hoanib Valley Camp in Kaokoland, north-western Namibia, surrounded by desert mountains.

However, the Duke of Sussex did hint that both he and Meghan have plans to travel together as they continue their royal duties.

"I, together with my wife Meghan, look forward to convening young people from around the Commonwealth to hear your ideas, work with you to build platforms for you to collaborate and form partnerships, and continue to meet with many of you as we travel around in our work on behalf of The Royal Family,” he said in a speech at the event.

This year’s Queen’s Leaders awards ceremony saw 61 young leaders from right across the Commonwealth receive recognition for their inspirational work in their communities.

Prince Harry sung praises for the award recipients who he said are an inspiration to young people everywhere.

“In this rapidly changing world, it is heartening to meet so many inspiring young people gathered here today, who have already stepped up as leaders and improved the lives of so many people across the Commonwealth.“

Harry and Meghan each conduct charitable work for causes close to their hearts.

Having served in the British Army for 10 years, the Duke of Sussex campaigns for the welfare of all men and women of the Armed Forces. The prince also works with groups to run programs helping disadvantaged youth in the UK.

Meghan, who at age 11 campaigned for the removal of a sexist advertisement on TV, has a passion for helping women all over the world. In 2015 she was appointed the UN Women's Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership.

The Duchess also conducts work to help the homeless.
