Prince George comforted a crying bridesmaid at the Royal Wedding

Prince George's Royal Wedding appearance was more straight-faced than fans had expected, but it seems he had important business on his hands: namely, stopping a bridesmaid meltdown before it erupted.

George, four, was part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bridal party for their May 19 wedding, alongside his sister Princess Charlotte and eight other pint-sized family friends.

Although everything went smoothly on the day, things could have been very different if it weren't for the royal pageboy's caring instincts.

"She started crying when they were waiting for Meghan. It was only a couple of minutes," Andrews explained.

"So Nanny Maria Borrallo kind of looked after her, and George apparently was trying to comfort her as well, which is very sweet."

Although the future king stepped up to the plate with little Zalie, it was Princess Charlotte who took on the role of leader throughout the Royal Wedding proceedings.

Speaking to People last week, a guest said the three-year-old had no qualms about giving her fellow bridesmaids instructions.

"There was one girl who wanted to go and she said, ‘No, you can’t go yet. We have to wait until we are asked'," the source said.

That said, royal nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo deserves some of the credit for keeping the 10 children in line.

“I was sitting right in front of [Maria] and she was bribing the youngest bridesmaid with Peppa Pig and Smarties, which was quite funny," PEOPLE's guest adds.

Photographer Alexi Lubomirski let the cat out of the bag in an interview with the BBC.

"I could hear the kids started crying in the background and there was some chaos, and then I heard this magic word... 'Smarties'," he recalled.

While the bridesmaids and page boys were all on their best behaviour throughout the ceremony, Ben Mulroney - who had three children in the bridal party - said it was clear they all had fun.

"There was a lot of worry that this wouldn't get done right, but they're having so much fun with it," Mulroney told Canadian breakfast show Your Morning.

It was such fun, in fact, that the band of children became firm friends throughout the process.

"They sort of came together in a little bit of a 'club' before this happened."
