How does a royal child whittle away the hours during lockdown, you ask?

Apparently, the answer is: by honing their horse riding skills.

According to The Times, Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids have become "avid riders" and will join their grandmother Queen Elizabeth on rides in coming months.

Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two, have been busy practising riding ponies while in lockdown at their country residence in Norfolk.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children have spent most of the UK's COVID-19 lockdown periods at the property, Anmer Hall.

The Times reports Her Majesty, a renowned lover of all things equine, has taken a "close interest" in her great-grandchildren's riding progress.

George, Charlotte and Louis are expected to join the monarch for some of her beloved rides around the Balmoral and Windsor estates during the UK's summer months.

It's not surprising the Cambridge children have taken up riding; after all, horses and the British royal family are synonymous.

Of course, the Queen has been riding horses since childhood, continuing to do so well into her nineties, and is also a successful breeder of race horses.

Her daughter Princess Anne and granddaughter Zara Tindall are both equestrians with Olympic medals and other championships to their names.

Then there's polo, which is played by Prince Charles and his two sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

Lady Louise Windsor, the Queen's youngest granddaughter, also likes to join the monarch for rides at the royal estates.
