The surprising royals Prince Charles secretly met with this week

While his son hides out in a remote home in Canada, it seems Prince Charles is continuing his life as usual, with the future king rumoured to have had some special guests visit his home this week.

According to the website of the Romanian royal family, Prince Charles hosted Crown Princess Margareta and her husband Prince Radu for a private meeting at his country home, Highgrove, on Monday.

The announcement on the official website was vague, stating little information on why the Romanian royals were in the UK.

"His Majesty Margareta The Custodians of the Crown and ASR Prince Radu met today with His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, at the Royal Highgrove residence (in Gloucestershire County, England)," the article reads, adding that "the meeting was private."

The Romanian and British royal families are believed to be close, with King Michael — Crown Princess Margareta's father — being the great-grandson of Queen Victoria, and therefore a third cousin of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It is also reported the Crown Princess spent her childhood summer holidays with Prince Charles and Princess Anne.

King Michael was the last king of Romania before the monarchy was abolished, and reigned from 1927 to 1930 and again from 1940 until his forced abdication in 1947.

After the king attended the wedding of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, he was summoned by the ruling communists of Romania and told the monarchy was to be abolished.

While the family doesn't officially have a royal role, Crown Princess Margareta formally assumed the role of Head of the House of Romania following her father's death in December 2017.

Crown Princess Margareta's younger sister Princess Elena is her designated heir.
