Monaco's Prince Albert sends Easter message after COVID-19 recovery

A fortnight after confirming his recovery from coronavirus, Monaco's Prince Albert has issued an Easter message.

The sovereign prince, 62, recently reunited with his family at their country estate Roc Ange, just in time for the Easter holiday period.

While receiving treatment for COVID-19 last month, the son of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace had been self-isolating at the family's palace apartments in Monte Carlo.

Appearing in an video with wife Princess Charlene (and their dogs) on her Instagram page on Monday, Albert seemed upbeat as he shared a message for their followers.

"In these difficult and troubled times, we simply wanted to wish you all, on behalf of our family and ourselves, a very happy Easter," the couple, sitting in their garden surrounded by Easter decorations, said in French and English.

Over the weekend, Charlene also shared photos of the couple's five-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, doing a spot of gardening, planting flowers and herbs.

When he confirmed his coronavirus diagnosis in mid-March, Prince Albert became the first head of state to publicly say he'd contracted the virus.

He was also the first high-profile royal to test positive for COVID-19, with Prince Charles' diagnosis coming days later.

During his time separated from his family, Prince Albert said they kept in touch via video calls.

"We told stories and talked about what we did during the day. I told [the twins] to be safe. They knew I was sick and that I had to stay away," the royal told People magazine.
