Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei welcomes first child - but she won't be joining the line of succession

There's a new royal baby!

It has been revealed Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei, 34, and his wife Princess Anisha, 31, have welcomed their first child in some joyous news.

But there's a twist – the newborn won't officially join the royal line of succession due to their gender.

The news of the birth was announced by RTB News and it revealed they had a daughter.

An Instagram post read: "In compliance with the orders of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, hereby announces that His Royal Highness Princess Anisha Rosnah binti Adam, wife of His Royal Highness Prince Muda 'Abdul Mateen ibni His Royal Highness Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, with the permission of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, has safely given birth to a daughter on Sunday, 20th, Syaaban, 1447 corresponding to 8th, February, 2026, at 8.50 am."

It also revealed how the royal family celebrated the birth.

"Following this release, 17 cannon shots were fired in the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman."

It's been reported the royal couple's daughter will not be in line to the throne as according to succession rules, Brunei's monarchs must be male.

Other rules include that monarchs must be muslim and a direct descendant in the male line.

Prince Abdul Mateen is fifth in line to the throne and is the son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

He and his wife announced their baby news in an Instagram post in October, holding hands and wearing matching white outfits.

"And then there were three," he wrote in the post, shared with millions.

The pair married in a lavish 10-day ceremony in January 2024.
