The low-key way Meghan Markle told her makeup artist she was getting married

The way Meghan Markle broke the news of her Royal Wedding date to her makeup artist was in direct contrast with the grandeur of the occasion.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Daniel Martin revealed the moment he found out he would be playing a crucial role in the event, saying he received a request from the very "chilled" Meghan via text message.

“She was like ‘Hey what are you doing May 19 (bride and groom emoji)?’ and I was like ‘OMG, OMG'," Martin, a long-time friend of the Duchess of Sussex, told the US breakfast TV program.

Martin said he calmed down in time to respond, "Whatever you need!"

Despite it being one of the biggest moments of her life – not to mention royal history - Martin said the morning of the former Suits star’s wedding was "very chill".

"We had breakfast. Guy, her dog was with us. We were playing around with him," he recalled.

"It was a very chill morning ... her mum was there, which was amazing."

Martin said joining the Royal Family and marrying a prince has not changed Meghan one bit.

"That's the crazy thing," he said. "She's still the same person."

Thanks to her famously minimal wedding makeup, Meghan’s natural beauty radiated on the big day.

Martin described the royal bride's look as one that "lit from within".

"When [Harry] takes the veil off, and he sees her, that's the moment I think a bride wants -- when she has that moment with her future husband," the makeup artist explained.

"It wasn't about a trendy makeup. It wasn't about a lot of eye, or a lot of lip. It was about her, and her being confident.

"She's a person who is very comfortable in her own skin, so she doesn't need to wear a lot."

So how did Martin create Meghan's wedding look?

The makeup artist revealed he used minimal foundation and concealer, only "spot treating" any imperfections and allowing the actress’ gorgeous freckles to shine through.

"Instead of using it all over her face, I used it only where I needed to balance out any redness or uneven skin tone," he said.

"And that was when you're able to see her freckles come through."

On the eyes, Martin applied a chestnut smoky brown colour and false lashes on the outer rims of her eyelids.

To apply eye shadow, he used "just a bit" and blended it in with his finger in order to follow the "shape of her eye."

Martin topped off the eye look with a chocolate brown eyeliner.
