What Meghan Markle told a crying fan in New Zealand

On Sunday, Meghan mania well and truly hit New Zealand as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on the final leg of their 16-day royal tour.

One fan’s hours-long wait to meet the royals in Wellington was rewarded when the Duchess took a moment to personally comfort her as she burst into tears.

The schoolgirl, named Victoria, was among the crowd gathered outside the National War Memorial, where Harry and Meghan laid a wreath, and couldn’t control her sobs as the royals approached her.

9Honey’s Natalie Oliveri was on hand to capture the moment Meghan stopped to comfort the teenager, holding her hands and even rubbing her wrists.

"I told her how beautiful she is and how inspiring I find her work with World Vision and how I'd love to be half the person she is,” Victoria tells 9Honey.

And Meghan's response?

"She was just trying to calm me down and she was like, 'Just breathe'. She's just so kind and genuine and I'll never forget it,” she recalls.

"They're both lovely, genuine, kind, incredible people."

Prince Harry also seemed touched by the teenager’s emotions, stopping to speak with her and friends.

"Prince Harry is so lovely, so charming," Victoria’s friend Emily tells 9Honey.

"[I said to him] ‘Some people say I have the same hair colour as you’ and he was like, 'Yeah, nah, I'm more of a redhead than you'."
