The pregnancy ritual Meghan might skip this time: 'Doesn't feel appropriate right now'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to welcome their second child, a daughter, in the coming weeks.

While the Duchess of Sussex had an 'extravagant' baby shower in New York ahead of the birth of son Archie in 2019 – which included a star-studded guest list – a source claims her second birth will be more low-key.

The source tells Us Weekly that given the ongoing pandemic, Meghan "doesn't feel a big baby shower with gifts is appropriate right now."

"There is too much strife in the world. She and Harry have been so involved with humanitarian issues, they both feel their time and resources can be used for a better purpose."

The couple, who currently reside in Montecito, California, announced their pregnancy news on Valentine's Day with a black-and-white portrait, shared across social media.

The image featured the Sussexes in their garden, barefoot and embracing each other lovingly.

"We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child," the announcement read.

Following the couple's Oprah interview in March, a second image from the shoot was shared, showing the Harry, Meghan and Archie in a group hug.

Us Weekly's source said the "support" of loved ones had been the most important thing during the duchess' second pregnancy.

They also called the Duke of Sussex the "ideal partner", saying he cared closely for Archie and "working to provide for his family."

Harry and Meghan disclosed the sex of their child during their tell-all interview with Oprah, which aired on March 7.

"Having any child, any one or a two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl…" a beaming Harry said.

"Now we've got our family and we've got four of us."

Meghan recently made her first TV appearance since the explosive interview in a pre-recorded speech for Global Citizens Vax Live concert.

She mentioned her future daughter in the short speech.

"My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world," she said.

"When we think of her, we think of all the other families around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward."

While Meghan's due date is unknown, the couple told Oprah their daughter is due in the US summer months.
