Meghan (jokingly) confirms who set her up with Prince Harry

Sound the alarm: the Duchess of Sussex has finally confirmed* who set her up on that fateful blind date with Prince Harry three years ago.

(*Jokingly, but we'll take what we can get.)

The mystery of the matchmaker has been a popular topic of speculation since Harry and Meghan's relationship began in 2016.

Sleuthing royal fans have tossed plenty of names into the ring, however, the mutual friend in question eventually identified herself in 2018.

Socialite and philanthropist Tahani Al-Jamil stepped forward to declare it was she who first saw the potential between the British prince and the American actress.

"We were all in Johnny Depp's mansion, watching my best friend Beyonce perform a song about my other friend Taylor," she explained on Twitter, echoing the claim on TV.

At this point it's worth mentioning Tahani is a fictional character from Netflix's The Good Place, depicted by Jameela Jamil.

Tahani has an inflated sense of self-importance and a habit of incessant celebrity name-dropping, so it was only a matter of time before she mentioned her royal link.

However, Meghan made no attempt to refute the claim when she spoke to Jamil over the phone recently, so that's all the confirmation we need.

The actress is among 15 influential women hand-picked by the Duchess to feature in the September issue of British Vogue, which Meghan guest-edited.

Recalling the day the royal called her about her inclusion, Jamil said Meghan told her she was a fan of The Good Place.

"I then felt immediately embarrassed that she had seen me joke about her on the show," she told Grazia, referring to the episode where Tahani name-drops the royals.

Clearly, Meghan took the reference in her stride.

"She said she's grateful to Tahani for introducing her to Harry. I just replied, 'You're welcome'," Jamil said.

"I had never met her before, but we chatted very openly ... [she was] warm, kind and actually very LOLs."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed they met through a mutual friend, but have refused to disclose any identifying details.

"We'll protect her privacy," Harry and Meghan told the BBC in their first interview as a couple.

Putting their investigative skills to use, fans have pointed fingers at fashion designer Misha Nonoo and Violet von Westenholz, a childhood friend of the Duke's.

However, neither woman has responded to the speculation, so the mystery remains.

With no evidence to the contrary, we're more than happy to accept the royal match was the work of a fictional character.

Take a bow, Tahani.
