Meghan and Harry praised for Suicide Prevention Day message on Instagram

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been praised for using their platform to spread awareness of suicide prevention and crisis services.

On Tuesday, Harry and Meghan marked World Suicide Prevention Day with a post to their 9.4 million Instagram followers.

"This World Suicide Prevention Day, we would like to spread the available support far and wide to ensure that no-one goes through a crisis alone," their message read.

The Sussexes then listed some of the UK-based services and charities that provide support for people grappling with their mental health or suicidal thoughts.

These include Shout, the crisis text line Prince William works closely with, SAVE, Samaritans, the Jed Foundation and Childline.

"Please use or share the below accounts today, or on any given day, to a friend, colleague or even a complete stranger, that may be suffering," the royals added.

"Wherever you are, you are not alone."

Commenters praised the royal couple for supporting the important cause, with many mentioning additional suicide prevention services.

"As a person who has hit crisis point three times in five years, this is so important!" one wrote.

"This is such a compassionate call to care about all of us who sometimes need a shoulder!" another said.

"We all need someone and we will all have times in our lives where it is painful and we feel alone but this reminds us to reach out."

The Pandas Foundation, one of the groups tagged in the post, also shared their gratitude to the royals for their support.

"Thank you so much to @sussexroyal for tagging us today in this post," they wrote.

"We aim to raise awareness of mental illness alongside support [for] struggling parents through our helpline ... support groups and social media accounts."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also acknowledged World Suicide Prevention Day in an Instagram post, sharing details of the Shout crisis line.

"There are a thousand ways to start a conversation about your crisis, [Shout] is here for all of them," the message began.

"Save and Share this World Suicide Prevention Day to ensure no-one goes through a crisis alone."

Mental health is an issue close to the young royals' hearts.
