Harry and Meghan's tender moment at Westminster Abbey's 'Field of Remembrance'

Meghan Markle made her first visit to the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, ahead of the national Remembrance Sunday ceremony.

The Duchess of Sussex attended with her husband, Prince Harry, with both royals laying crosses at the memorial.

During the service, Prince Harry was seen giving a subtle nod to Meghan, who then moved closer towards him.

They then both lay their wooden crosses on a bed of red poppies to honour those who sacrificed their lives defending Britain.

The Duke of Sussex has been attending the ceremony since 2013 but this is the first time Meghan has accompanied him.

The royal couple were originally meant to be joined by Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, however she didn't attend due to a chest infection.

A statement from Clarence House said Camilla was suffering from a "chest infection which has got progressively worse over the last few days."

The poppies are particularly special to the Duchess, as she is a patron of The Poppy Factory in South West London which is where the poppies are made.

The royal family will be attending a number of events in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday, finishing with the service at the Cenotaph, where the Queen and senior royals pay their respects to tribute to Britain's war dead.

The Duke and Duchess were seen meeting past and present members of the armed forces after the ceremony.
