While his father King Charles III waved to the masses from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, it's believed Prince Harry was already on his way to the airport to fly home to the US.

Just an hour after the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, Harry was spotted at Heathrow Airport, according to The Sun, after he was seen getting in his car and leaving Westminster Abbey shortly after the ceremony.

It had previously been reported the Duke of Sussex wouldn't remain in the UK for long, and it was expected he would leave 'within 24 hours' to make it home for his son Archie's fourth birthday.

Meanwhile, his father and Queen Camilla stepped out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace, surrounded by other senior, working members of the royal family, as well as their grandchildren.

Despite speculation that Prince Harry would appear on the balcony alongside his family, that was quickly quashed when he left Westminster separately from the other royals.

The Daily Mail reports he told Jack Brooksbank he would be 'heading off' during a conversation they shared inside Westminster Abbey, before saying the word 'airport', according to a professional lip reader.

Harry arrived alone to Westminster but was accompanied into the ceremony by Princess Beatrice's hubby Edo Mapelli Mozzi.

He then took a seat in the third row next to Princess Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank. On his other side was Princess Alexandra, 86, Queen Elizabeth's cousin.

While it was reported the duke had been invited to a post-coronation lunch at Buckingham Palace, in what many would have seen as an olive branch after his explosive memoir Spare, it seems he has declined the invitation.
