Prince Andrew has reportedly been granted a "stay of execution" at the Royal Lodge after a stand-off with King Charles.

A royal insider told the Mirror the disgraced Duke of York has been allowed to stay indefinitely at the lodging on Windsor estate.

Andrew was reportedly "refusing to budge" after requests he vacate the Royal Lodge for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children.

The source told the Mirror a deal has now been struck to allow the Duke of York time to source money to cover the estimated £2 million ($3.8 million) in repairs on the 30-room mansion.

The decision was reportedly made after a private meeting at Balmoral between Prince Andrew and his brother King Charles back in August this year.

Additionally, the insider revealed Andrew has so far spent a staggering £200,000 ($380,000) for roof repairs over the summer as an "interim payment" on the lodging.

Prince Andrew has been living at the Royal Lodge since 2003 when it was granted to him by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

A source told OK! magazine in June that the late monarch had left her son an inheritance that was being used to pay for the repairs on the lodging.

"There was money left to the family by the Queen," the source said.
