Why Kate Middleton's royal style has become more 'edgy' in 2019
The Duchess of Cambridge's fashion choices never fail to make headlines, but she's really been knocking it out of the park with her recent outfits.
Just last weekend, Kate attended the christening of her nephew Archie Mountbatten-Windsor in a more playful ensemble than we're used to seeing at formal royal events.

The mum of three, 37, teamed her pink above-the-knee Stella McCartney dress with a red headband and matching heels, the colour combo proving popular with fans.
In recent weeks, she's also worn a series of more casual, flowy patterned midi-dresses with wedged espadrilles, which have seemingly become her go-to summer shoe.

Kate's outfit for her first Wimbledon outing last week was less colourful but equally chic, with the Duchess selecting a white shirt-dress cinched with a black belt.
According to a source, Kate's fresh fashion choices of late reflect her desire to dress "a big younger and more modern".

“Kate felt like she was in a bit of a style rut and thought she needed a little edge,” the source tells People magazine.
Clearly, the sartorial overhaul — overseen by Kate's longtime stylist Natasha Archer — is paying off.

Media outlets and fashion commentators have praised her "perfect summer uniform" (the midi + espadrilles combo) and the more affordable designs she's championed.
These include popular retailer & Other Stories, which is also beloved by Kate's royal sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex.

Even the Duchess' more practical outfits have been injected with a bit of edge in 2019.
Since January, Kate has favoured a pair of combat-style ankle boots by Chloe for her outdoorsy royal appearances.

She's worn the lace-up boots on three occasions so far, seemingly giving her Penelope Chilvers riding boots — which she's been wearing for more than a decade — a rest.
With six months worth of royal appearances to come before 2019 wraps up, we're excited to see what else the Duchess has in her style arsenal.
