This is why Kate Middleton wasn’t at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday Garden Party

Kate Middleton was spotted looking happy and well at the royal wedding, but she was noticeably absent two days later when newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their debut at Prince Charles’ Garden Party in honour of his 70th birthday.

Prince William was not in attendance at the event, as he was at a remembrance service for victims of the Manchester bombing attack. However, his wife Catherine wasn’t present at royal duties since she is on maternity leave after giving birth to Prince Louis on April 23.

The mother-of-three won’t be working for a few months, but as the royal wedding was a family event she took a day away from her newborn to support her brother and new sister-in-law.

"It is traditional for new royal mums to take a six-month break from official engagements," royal biographer Duncan Larcombe told Cosmopolitan UK. "The wedding doesn’t count because it was a 'family affair' but other than that, she will pick and choose her engagements.

“If she wanted, Kate could disappear into the background until October!"

Chances are, that probably won’t happen. Next month is Trooping the Colour, where Kate and William appear on Buckingham Palace balcony alongside the Queen to watch the flypast.

9Honey’s royal commentator Victoria Arbiter says the royal couple will be there with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

“We’re very much hoping George and Charlotte will be in attendance again this year, they were last year and it’s always fun to see the two of them.

“George in particular has got quite a personality -- he loves the aeroplanes, and at the end of Trooping the Colour there’s always a really impressive flyover where he gets very excited.”

However, there will be one person missing from the event...

“Unfortunately Louis won’t be at Trooping the Colour, he’ll still be pretty small,” Victoria said.

“I think George was, give or take, two or three years old when he made his balcony debut. We’ll have to wait a little while for Louis… I think the next time we’ll see him will be at his Christening.”

Princess Charlotte was christened two months after her birthday, so we may not be waiting long to see little Louis again.
