Why cooking curry is a challenge in the Cambridge household

Cooking for one dish for a family with children isn't necessarily an easy feat — and even the Duchess of Cambridge will attest to that.

During her latest royal engagement, a visit to London's Aga Khan Centre, the royal mum of three spoke about her love of cooking curry at home.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are heading to Pakistan on a royal tour this month, and admitted they were looking forward to trying the local food, including curries.

Kate, 37, said she often whips up the dish at home, but has to create three spice levels to satisfy each family member's heat tolerances.

"It's so hard cooking curry with the family," she explained.

"The children have a portion with no spice, [William's] is medium, and I quite like it hot."

The Duke confirmed the charged, adding: "Me and heat, not so good. I love spice but not heat."

However, at least one of the Cambridge children seems to have inherited their mother's enjoyment of spice.

"Charlotte is pretty good with heat," Kate added.

During her pregnancy with Prince George, she dropped in to a convenience store while visiting her parents in Berkshire and left with a freshly-made curry.

"My wife made her curry a little while ago which she enjoyed," the shop owner told Hello! magazine of their encounter with the Duchess.

"She came in one day and my wife was cooking upstairs. She said it smelled lovely, so my wife gave her some to take away."

In a 2017 interview with BBC Radio 1, the Cambridges revealed that yes, they do order in, with Kate quick to confirm curry is the dish of choice.

"I'm not so good with the spicy food, though," William reiterated.

Something tells us the Duke won't be joining Kate in eating the spiciest curry dishes Pakistan has to offer when they visit the country in a couple of weeks' time...
