How William reacted to 'Megxit': "Incandescent with rage"

Next week will mark one year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to step down as "senior royals" from their official duties within the royal family.

The Sussexes made the decision to become financially independent and split their time between the UK and North America with their son Archie, officially standing down at the end of March and settling in California after a brief stay in Canada.

However, their decision was not well-received by the rest of the family — particularly as they apparently didn't consult the Queen or Prince Charles before publicly announcing their plan, leaving the family "hurt" by their actions.

According to a royal source, their statement broke royal protocol.

"This is a declaration of war on the family," they said, adding the family was 'furious' over how they carried out the announcement, "without any thought for the implications for the institution."

"The Queen is deeply upset," they continued. "The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage."

Prince Harry and Prince William have reportedly had a tense relationship for some time, which began long before Harry's decision to leave the family.

William apparently angered Harry when he was dating Meghan, after telling her to 'slow down' their relationship.

Harry admitted in an interview with ITV's Tom Bradby last year that him and his brother are "on different paths", not spending as much time together as they had in the past, and have "good days" and "bad days" in their relationship.
