The news that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has welcomed her third child with Prince William has caused a flurry of excitement around the world.

The little prince was born at London's St Mary's Hospital on April 23, weighing 8lbs 7oz.

Fans are already discussing what the new prince might be called, and how another nephew might affect Prince Harry and his relationship.

The announcement of the baby's birth followed royal tradition, but had some modern twists.

A tweet sent on Monday morning, London time, revealed Catherine had gone into labour and had been transferred to the Lindo Wing at St Mary's - where she had Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

"The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge," Kensington Palace wrote.

It appears they have opted to inform the public in the same manner this time around, with Kensington Palace tweeting the baby's birth.
