The special gifts Donald and Melania Trump received from the Queen

The Trumps have been treated to plenty of royal pomp and ceremony during their UK State Visit, so it's no surprise their welcome gifts from the Queen were equally lavish.

On Monday, the first day of their three-day trip, the US President and First Lady were greeted by their royal host at Buckingham Palace.

Following a private luncheon with the couple and Prince Harry, Her Majesty presented her guests with some special gifts to mark the occasion.

Melania received a specially commissioned silver box with a handcrafted enamel lid decorated with roses, thistles and shamrocks.

The floral design is inspired by the ceiling of the music room at Buckingham Palace, which features the same patterns and colours.

President Trump—the third US president the Queen has hosted for a state visit—was presented with a 1959 first edition of The Second World War by Winston Churchill.

He also received a three-piece Duofold pen set in a design exclusive to the Queen.

It has not been confirmed whether the Trumps presented Her Majesty with any gifts in return.

However, it seems the President has already forgotten what he gave the monarch when he met her in Windsor a matter of months ago.

While browsing items of historical significance in the palace's Picture Gallery, Trump was shown the pewter horse he'd presented to Her Majesty last year.

According to The Sun's royal correspondent Emily Andrews, when asked if he recognised the item, Trump declared: "no."

"Melania came to his rescue and said 'I think we gave that to the Queen'," Andrews tweeted.

Whoopsie.

There are more special gifts in store for the Trumps during their state visit.

On Tuesday, the couple will meet with Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Philip.

Hello reports May will present Mr Trump with a framed draft of the 1941 Atlantic Charter, drawn up by by president Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

The First Lady will receive a bespoke tea set.
