A who's who of the royal 'Magnificent Seven', and what we can expect from them

First it was the 'Fab Four', now the 'Magnificent Seven' — it's clear the public loves a catchy pop culture-themed label when it comes to the royal family.

The latest nickname emerged in late 2020, at the conclusion of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's royal train tour of the UK.

As the couple met with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, they were joined by a core group of senior royals representing a new era for the monarchy — one seeking to reflect "reassurance, continuity and stability", explains 9Honey's royal commentator Victoria Arbiter.

"Without saying a word, the message was clear. They're the seven royals set to lead the charge."

The group, dubbed the 'Magnificent Seven' by royal aides and newspapers, is as follows: Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince William and Kate; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

It's been no secret Charles has wanted to "slim down" the monarchy as he moves towards his reign as king.

However, in the last two years that plan has faced unexpected hurdles, namely the resignation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as senior royals, and Prince Andrew's retreat from public life over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
