Beatrice and Eugenie's upbringing had a 'stability' William and Harry's never did

Growing up royal can be difficult for a whole host of reasons, but two sets of cousins had very different childhoods in the British royal family.

While Prince William and Prince Harry are known to have struggled through their parent's divorce and the subsequent death or their mother, Princess Diana, their cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice had very different experiences.

According to royal author Ingrid Seward, the princesses enjoyed a "stability" the boys never had.

“Beatrice and Eugenie have had a stability that William and Harry have found painfully lacking in their lives,” she told PEOPLE.

“Although their early childhood was not good, those girls have had a very secure upbringing.”

Born to Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, the two girls were still young when their parents went through a very public divorce, resulting in their mother leaving the royal family.

Sarah had been at odds with the Windsors for some time and found adjusting to life after the divorce difficult, especially as she was under constant media attention.

It was a trying time for the two young princesses, but they were lucky enough to see their family slowly heal and turn into one of the most relaxed royal family units.

Sarah has said before that she and Andrew are "the happiest divorced couple" in the world, a claim backed up by their regular appearances at events as a family unit, as well as the former couple's clearly positive relationship.

Along with Beatrice and Eugenie, the family is often spotted together and feature each other on their social media accounts, gushing about the positive relationships they share.

It's an environment that has allowed the princesses to thrive both as royals and as businesswomen, both currently pursuing real world careers.

Though William and Harry have both made names for themselves as successful and compassionate royals, they sadly didn't get to enjoy the stable upbringing their cousins did.

Reeling from their mother's sudden death in 1997, both princes have opened in the past about how deeply the loss affected them.

Fortunately they were both able to work through the devastating loss and come out the other side stronger, now championing mental health causes and speaking out about the importance of supporting people through grief.
