Rosie Waterland responds to fans after breakup story goes viral

Imogen Dewey

Author and 9Honey columnist Rosie Waterland shared her "truly millennial" breakup story on social media yesterday. It was a brutal one, to say the least.

"Hello I’m 31 and just got dumped via messenger and simultaneously blocked across all platforms so I couldn’t respond, high school-style," she wrote.

"Can’t decide if I’m heartbroken or want to bitch to Ja’mie. Both I guess. IT’S ALL MATERIAL."

This sequence of events sounds pretty awful. Of course Waterland, who's known and loved for her pull-no-punches humour and realism, would turn this into something funny.

All the same, she was very straight-up about how hard it all hit her.

"Seriously though, I am f---ing devastated and confused," she wrote on Facebook.

"And at 31, feeling like I’m probably just unlovable at this point."

Hundreds of fans rushed in on all platforms to reassure and comfort her, because breakups suck, even when they're not done over social media.

Comments ranged from compliments to sympathy anecdotes to downright outrage on Waterland's behalf. But some may have gone in a little hard on that last one.

Early on Tuesday morning, Waterland added an important message to fans and followers who had taken it on themselves to go right to her ex to express their displeasure directly (virtually speaking).

"A few of you are commenting that you've gone to his social media pages to give him sh--," she wrote in a comment under her original post. She said that this had surprised her, as she'd gone to some effort never to publicly mention his name when posting or writing.

"He did though, I suppose in an attempt to gain legitimacy off my following, comment incessantly about being my boyfriend on a lot of my stuff – I'm assuming this is why a lot of you know who he is."

"Please don't give him sh--," she went on.

"It's not deserved. He's already changed his Insta to private which means it's bothering him. I wouldn't have posted if I thought he would be targeted in any way. That's not what I want at all. I don't want any more hurt to come out of this."

Many praised Waterland for taking the high road. But she's already onto more important things. Like focusing on her emerging career as a lingerie model.

With all the beauty therapy that entails.

"Got dumped and ghosted yesterday, and am getting lash refills today which means I CANNOT CRY FOR 24 HOURS," she told followers today.

"This is a genius life hack don’t @ me."

So that's an upside.

Plus, as one follower pointed out to her on Instagram, Channing Tatum is now single
