Women on Reddit share the things they’ve been told they “can’t do”

A Reddit thread is gaining momentum online after a user asked “What is the most ridiculous thing someone thought you couldn’t do because you were a woman?”

The online forum became a hub of interaction when a conversation opened up about female gender stereotypes, leading hundreds of women to offer up the most absurd suggestions of things their X chromosomes allegedly prevent them from doing.

One woman explained that she was told she couldn’t “Drive a truck/SUV towing a trailer,” while another added: “Was at an internship and boss asked me if I knew how to turn on a PC. When I said yes, he said ‘Oh, most girls don’t know how unless I do it for them.’”

And the shockers kept on coming.

One woman shared an ironic story about seeing blood, explaining: “Dude’s friend wouldn't let me wash and bandage a cut he got because 'girls faint if they see blood'.

“I reminded him that I bleed out the crotch every month, and he replied that that doesn't count because it's not 'real' blood because it's not from a wound.”

Bizarrely, one user explained that a man once told her she couldn’t “Drink whiskey. Seriously, the number of dudes whose eyes fall out of their heads when I order a whiskey is staggering. Sometimes I'll get a ‘Hurr hurr I had you for a rum and diet’ or similar.

“Then I say ‘rum and diets are tasty too’ and really blow their minds. Because god forbid women enjoy more than one type of thing.

Plenty explained that they have been stopped from carrying heavy objects on multiple occasions, with some even describing occasions when men offered to help them carry weights...in the gym.

However, it was one woman’s observation that plenty of people believe she can’t “Have an intelligent, mutually-rewarding friendship with a man without ‘complicating’ things” that could be most relateable.

Sadly, we've all been there.
