A woman who claims she was “pigged” by her holiday romance after she arranged to fly to his home country only to find out it was a hoax has spoken of her humiliation over the situation.

Sophie Stevenson, 24, says she was victim of a cruel hoax known as 'Pull a Pig', which involves men targeting women they consider ordinary looking by dating them and then dumping them.

The UK woman claims she paid nearly $600 for a flight to Amsterdam to meet Dutchman Jesse Mateman but was stood up via text. "You've been pigged. It was all a joke," the text from Jesse to Sophie read, with the heartbroken woman responding, "How could you be so cruel though?"

Jesse, 21, has since denied her story. In a statement through his lawyer, he said the pair had not spoken since leaving Barcelona and if he had used the word ‘pig’ it would have been in relation to how they had sex and not her appearance.

Previously Mateman had told the MailOnline “I've been in a hotel room with her, but I never slept with her. We are not and never were in love, as suggested.

“We actually met in Barcelona, but I never had a romance with her.”

He since admitted sleeping with her in his statement.
