Calls for Prince Andrew to be stripped of naval titles and roles

There have reportedly been calls for Prince Andrew to be stripped of all his military titles and roles as the backlash following his BBC interview continues.

The royal, who served as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands war, currently holds 59 honorary military positions, but sources from within the British military have claimed Andrew has become a "source of derision."

"It's embarrassing to be represented by someone like that," a navy source told The Times.

"As a service we would not be rushing to invite him to anything. It's safe to say there have been grumbles and it seems likely that the post would be passed on."

Military personnel are reportedly frustrated that the Duke of York has retained his military titles despite having "stepped back" from royal duties and all 230 of his patronages.

But given that the armed forces are bound by allegiance to the Queen, there's not much they can do about the situation.

The military source also said that Andrew's claims that he could no longer sweat after his experiences in the Falklands war were surprising to military personnel, who hadn't heard of such a condition before.

This is just the latest in a series of blows dealt to the Duke of York, who has faced constant criticism since he spoke about his relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein in a BBC interview earlier this month.

"It would be a considerable stretch to say that he was a very, very close friend," Andrew claimed at the time.

Though the royal had hoped the interview would end the whispers of scandal that had followed him for months since he was named in relation to the Epstein case, his plans backfired.

Now the duke is being kept out of the spotlight, having stepped back from royal duties, and is expected to maintain a low profile as the backlash continues.
