Pregnant meteorologist hits back at body-shamers: 'I'm growing a human'

A pregnant TV meteorologist has clapped back at body-shaming trolls after being bullied over her growing belly.

Mary Ours, from Pennsylvania, decided to speak out this week about one social media user's cruel comments, asking about her dress size and telling her to consult a stylist.

The original comment, posted to the WJAC-TV Facebook page, read: “Just watched the weather forecast. Some fashion consulting, please.”

Ours, who is 13 weeks pregnant, responded to the comment herself, telling the viewer her dress was “perfectly fine”.

“If you find one that you think suits better, please feel free to send my way, I’ll do the same for you,” she wrote back.

The original comment has since been deleted by the author.

But a fed-up Ours posted a screenshot of the exchange on her own Facebook page, encouraging others to think twice before body-shaming others.

The 27-year-old mum-to-be revealed she puts up with comments about how she dresses “practically every day”, saying the issue “needs to be addressed”.

“Women in particular feel that they can say whatever they want to someone about their size and how they dress in a public forum where everyone can see it," she wrote on her Facebook page, which has more than 12,500 followers.

She pointed out her body was going to be "changing drastically" and "growing”, adding that bullying and negative comments about how she dresses were “unnecessary and will not be tolerated”.

“We as women should be supporting each other not putting each other down.

“As I become a mother soon, I feel I owe it to myself to try and make a difference and put a stop to the online bullying and body-shaming.

“I am growing a human, and I am doing my best.”

Her post has been liked almost 500 times and many have commented about their own experiences with body-shaming.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Ours also touched on how disheartening it was that viewers focused more on her appearance than how good she was at her job.

“I'm like, 'I worked hard for my college degree and meteorology certification, and that's what you notice?’,” she said.

"People see me in person and say, 'Wow, you look a lot bigger on TV,' not, 'Your forecast is great, you do a great job'.

"What I look like has nothing to do with my brain or how I give my forecast."
