Popular cheerleader dies after falling mysteriously ill
A popular cheerleader in the United States has suddenly died, just hours after falling mysteriously ill and being taken to hospital by her father.
Lilliana Schalck, 13, from Fort Thomas became ill after travelling to Columbus, Ohio for a cheerleading competition on February 23.
The eighth grader’s father took her to the hospital after she told him she wasn’t feeling well. In hospital, Schalck’s condition quickly deteriorated and she died shortly after.
The teenager was a talented cheerleader who, despite being in middle school, competed in the high school varsity cheerleading team. Schalck was also a member of a private cheerleading, gymnastics and dance team called ‘Premier Athletics of Northern Kentucky.’

Following the shock death, tributes flowed through the community. A moment of silence was held at the cheerleading event to honour the teen.
There was also a special rally where competitors gathered in a hall chanting ‘We are P-A’ in reference to the team Schalck competed for, Premier Athletics.

The Daily Mail also reported the school’s athletic director describing Schalck as, “one of the school's most gifted cheerleaders, who was also an excellent student and popular among her peers.” The school held a vigil, drawing hundreds of students, teachers and members of the local community.
School officials have confirmed the student’s death, however, as of Monday, no further information as to the cause has been released.
It is understood grief counsellors will be made available to students and staff.
