Police 'pull over' couple to help local man propose to his girlfriend

A US woman was surprised to find herself being presented with an engagement ring rather than a fine after being pulled over by the police last week.

Just hours beforehand, her boyfriend had sneakily enlisted police in Miami Beach for a top-secret mission.

“Kenneth walked into MBPD this evening and asked Officer O’Neal if we could help him propose to his girlfriend,” the police department wrote on Twitter. 

Footage of the encounter, shared on the Miami Beach Police Department social media accounts, shows a police car trailing the couple’s vehicle, lights flashing, before they pull over to the side of the road.

Getting out of the car, both the woman and her partner look confused.

"I just want you to marry me,” he declares.

Clearly stunned, his girlfriend clasps her hands to her face and says, “Oh my god, you’re crazy …  I don’t even know what to say.”

After several speechless seconds, it’s eventually mission accomplished, with the unnamed woman saying “yes” to her kneeling boyfriend.

He then stands up to slide on the ring before throwing his arms around… the policeman.

Although the internet generally loves a good surprise proposal video, plenty of viewers honed in on the young woman’s hesitant reaction to the proposal.
