I've ordered similar items from 18 different retailers... but how much did I have to fork out for postage at each store? Which parcels will arrive first? And which will miss the deadline?

The packages continued to arrive right on cue... but should we be paying extra for delivery?

"The beauty of online shopping is you get to do price comparisons, so shop around, you can always get cheaper shipping with a little bit of let your fingers do the walking," Retail expert Jo Munro tells A Current Affair.

Munro says customers are happy to pay a fee for shipping if it's fair.

"Some retailers are charging exorbitant amounts of what i would call postage and handling," Munro says.

"So if they've got laborious processes, we're paying for those.

"If it's taking two weeks, I almost expect that to be free shipping," Munro adds.

Same day delivery at Country Road set me back $15. VIP Gold and Platinum members get free shipping on all purchases.

Although, I ordered same day delivery - due to arrive before 5pm but it arrived at some point overnight.

At JB HI-FI I opted for their $9.99 rush hour delivery service, which means I was told to expect my parcel before 7pm and it did arrive about 6:30pm.

Fashion chain Portmans charged $14.95 for next day delivery and it did arrive the very next day.

While Millers really surprised me, telling me to expect my parcel in 3-5 business days but it was with me in just one day.

Similarly, Harvey Norman advised 2-10 business days but it too arrived in just two days, after forking out the $17.95 delivery fee.

My Myer pouch arrived ahead of my David Jones parcel but they were beaten by Target.

Same day delivery is advertised as an option at Witchery, however that option wasn't available to me when I went to check out. 

After a number of deliveries arrived from Decathlon, Big W and Platyput, I was left waiting on my ASOS and Amazon orders.

However, when I contacted Amazon to check on my parcel only to find out my order was declined... and  I wasn't informed.
