New dating company ditches awkward messaging

We can all agree that the worst thing about online dating is the messaging.

Figuring out the wording of how to open your text can be a nightmare, and some of the messages you receive in return can be even worse (in more ways than one).

Now, a new dating company has decided to ditch the messaging, along with online profiles, and force us to do what we've been trying to do for so long - actually meet people.

Met Through Friends is a Sydney-based dating company that has said no to swipes, likes and awkward opening lines by completely removing messaging from the equation.

Rather than awkwardly text emojis at another human being until you build up the courage to meet, or things just fizzle out, the group hosts event where you can actually come face to face with other singles in the real world. What a novel idea!

“Online dating offers a smorgasbord of potential others," explained co-founder Wendy Searl.

"But our research showed that Sydney singles don’t want an all-they-can-eat dating buffet. They’d prefer bespoke, a-la-carte experience."

With more and more singletons becoming swipe-weary, the idea of simply meeting someone 'the old fashioned way' can be incredibly appealing.

Plus there's no risk of being catfished, scammed, or any of those other super fun things that come with modern dating apps.

Met Through Friends hosts events based around actual experiences such as wine tasting, so you'll actually have something to talk about other than the usual "what do you do for work?"

"You can have a real conversation, not a first date interview," Wendy said.

But there's a catch – you can't come alone.

You're expected to invite a single friend of the opposite sex to come along with you, both to keep you comfortable and to make sure there's an even mix of men and women at any given event.

Though plenty of people have found lasting relationships through typical dating apps, it's nice for Sydney singles to at least have a new option when it comes to finding someone.

Though the idea of meeting face to face can be a bit daunting, not having to message potential dates beforehand takes a lot of the stress out of meeting someone new.

And with plenty of people to chat with at any given event, you have a much higher chance of clicking with someone.

Plus, none of the men can lie about how tall they are when you meet them in real life first.
