New mum trolled for wearing makeup days after giving birth

A new mum who shared a photo with her newborn to Instagram was left horrified when she was inundated with rude comments and messages, just because she was wearing makeup.

UK mum Sophie Attwood, 27, gave birth to her daughter Isla Josephine Lewis in January and chose to share a photo with her newborn bub a few days after she was delivered via emergency caesarean section.

Her fiance, Daniel Lewis, snapped the shot of her with her new bub while out at a restaurant just four days after Isla was born, which Sophie quickly shared to Instagram.

But rather than well wishes and congratulations, Sophie was flooded with mean comments criticising her decision to wear a full face of makeup so soon after giving birth.

Everyone from close friends to random strangers questioned why Sophie was out and about so soon after delivering Isla, who was slightly premature, leaving the new mum feeling attacked.

She had been going "stir crazy" at home and had simply wanted a change of scenery for a few hours, however her followers took major issue with her putting on a face of makeup for her trip out.

According to the Daily Mail UK, one of the messages the new mum recieved read: "Four days and you have a full face of make-up?! Lol where do your priorities lie?"

Meanwhile Sophie's friends blamed Sophie for making them feel "pressured" to look perfect after child birth, something many women have complained about, especially in relation to how put together royal mums look in the hours and days after delivery.

"I told them it just gave me a sense of normality and made me feel human again," Sophie told the Daily Mail UK.

She explained that makeup is like her "war paint" and that she even wore it during labour, touching up her face between contractions as she travelled to the hospital to deliver baby Isla.

She also left the hospital in a full face of makeup, which she says earned her a few foul looks from other parents – as if her contouring and winged liner has any impact on her ability to be a mum.

Though she confessed that she felt "pressure" to look good after delivery, Sophie's makeup choices really have no bearing on her parenting skills, with comments like the ones she received only making it harder for new mums to adjust to life with their newborns.
