Stay-at-home mum horrified by husband's 'unsettling' behaviour as she showered

A concerned mum of two has taken to the internet, asking for advice about her husband's "unsettling" behaviour after noticing a camera recording her while she showered.

The family of four has a pet tortoise, which they use a Blink camera to monitor — but after she left her husband looking after their five- and two-year-old children to take a shower for 20 minutes, she became concerned when she realised the camera was in the bathroom, recording her.

As the stay-at-home mum was moisturising her body naked, she noticed the camera had been turned on manually and was actively recording her.

"I'm not really sure what to do," the mum wrote on Mumsnet, where she asked fellow women for advice.

Admitting things had been "tense recently," the mum said she had her husband sit with the kids for 20 minutes while she got showered and dressed, suggesting he use the time to catch up on work emails so he doesn't feel like he's "wasting his time," admitting he "moans usually" about watching the kids in the day and then "tacks the time onto the end of his work day."

"Off I go to shower, go upstairs to dry off etc and get dressed. We have a pet tortoise who lives in a tortoise table. I bought a Blink camera so I could see if she was ok while we were out (I'm a bit of a nervous first-time pet owner)," she continues.

"While I was moisturising, naked [obviously] (I wasn't taking ages over it, and I have really dry skin, I can't skip it!), I noticed the blue light on [the] camera, which I know means the live view has been activated by the app because of when I set it up. I just froze for a moment and then took two massive steps out of shot. I'm absolutely mortified," the mum says.

After "calmly" getting dressed, the mum asked her husband to delete the Blink app, but he acted innocent. When she asked why he "spied" on her, the husband responded by saying he was "just checking up" on what she was up to.

"The camera used to just show the tortoise table and a tiny bit of the bed, I was getting ready on the other of the bed so it must have been adjusted to cover that area, it's a manual adjust one.

"I just don't know what to think. Who spies on their own wife?" the mum wrote, before asking if she was being unreasonable for feeling "really angry and violated."

Fellow mums quickly came to the woman's defense, reassuring her that she was not overreacting or being unreasonable.

"I would be f-----g livid," one mum wrote. "Your husband is a creep. I think that might be it for me, my trust in him would be shattered."

Another mum wrote, "Very unsettling and I would not be happy!" while one mum pointed out that the husband's act "shows a creepy level of pre-planning" before asking if he had the ability to save the footage.

Another Mumsnet user advised the woman to consider involving law enforcement.

"Yikes. Yeah, that's that over with. Dude's a creep. What he did is illegal," the comment began.

"You need to also consider that he's been saving footage and uploading it to other creeps who get off on this sort of 'ha look at my wife who doesn't know what I'm recording' stuff.

"Honestly? I'd be considering the police. They can examine his computer for evidence he's been recording and uploading, and even if they don't find anything, they can still caution him for basically committing a sex crime against his own partner," they continued.

"Given that you now know he's a perv, he can't be around the kids anymore either, so the police could also advise in that regard."
