US mum reported missing after not picking up son from babysitter

A US mum has been reported missing after she failed to pick up her son from a babysitter's house.

Prisma Denisse Peralta Reyes, 26, was scheduled to collect the six-year-old after work on Wednesday night but didn't show up, Fox 4 News reports.

The babysitter, identified as Maria, says she had spoken to the Mesquite, Texas mum at around 4pm during her lunch break from her new job at a used car lot in Dallas.

When Reyes didn't respond to her text message after missing her usual pick-up time of 7:30pm, Maria called the police at around 9.30pm.

Subsequent texts and calls to the young mum's phone from her loved ones have also gone unanswered.

On Thursday morning, police found Reyes' vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, abandoned in the parking lot of an apartment building in Dallas.

The last sighing of the young mum was captured on surveillance cameras at 6pm on Wednesday near where her car was discovered.

The footage shows Reyes, dressed in a red polo shirt and jeans, talking on the phone while standing next to an elevator, then walking out of the frame.

She hasn't been heard from since, however police have interviewed and cleared the person she was speaking with on the phone.

Reyes' stepfather tells US news outlet WFAA he is "distraught" by her disappearance, adding that her son is her "world" and that she wouldn't abandon her beloved Jeep.

“My mind is going in different directions ... I’m hoping she’s found safe. Not just for her sake, but for her son’s and her family," Dan Fuchs added.

Reyes' son is currently in the care of relatives.
