A mother who was arrested after livestreaming video of herself blowing smoke in her baby's face has had the charges against her dropped.

Tybresha Sexton, 24, was facing charges of child abuse or neglect after sharing a video on Facebook live that showed her lifting her tiny baby into the air with one hand and blowing cigarette smoke into the child's face.

However, the charges have now been dropped after prosecutors admitted that, though "disturbing", it would be almost impossible to prove neglect based on the short clip alone.

The video caused widespread outrage both online and in Sexton's local community, and several people who saw the clip made concerned calls to police.

She was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after refusing to cooperate when police arrived at her home following a tip off about the video.

Officers claim Sexton told them she "didn't want that f—king baby anyway" when they arrived and said they could smell alcohol on her breath.

The child is now in the custody of her grandmother, who will have legal custody until at least January, according to WTVC-TV anchor Latricia Thomas

Police reportedly received several calls about the video when Sexton first posted it, leading police to investigate and arrest the mum on charges of child neglect.

She was held on $100,000 bond until the charges were dropped on Tuesday.
