Mother of California shooting victim makes plea for gun control

In the wake of the Thousand Oaks, California shootings in November last year, one mother's profound words went viral.

Susan Orfanos' son, Tel Orfanos, was one of the 12 people killed when a gunman opened fire at a bar in the local area.

When questioned by reporters about the incident, Orfanos had one clear message: the need for gun control.

“I don’t want prayers,” she said at the time. “I don’t want thoughts. I want gun control.”

In a recent interview with People, the mum recalled how angry she felt in that moment.

“I’ve never been so angry in my life — ever,” the 59 told the publication. “I just couldn’t control my rage.

"We loved our son. He was supposed to come home that night and he didn’t.”

Tel had survived the 2017 mass shootings in Las Vegas, only to face the same situation a year later with a very different outcome on November 7, 2012.

Twelve people died during the shooting, and many others were injured.

Since then Orfanos and her husband Marc have continued to lobby for stronger laws on gun control.
