Men using professional networking site to lure women

Unfortunately, It's not uncommon to hear stories of women receiving unsolicited messages from men on social media, using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

However, some are taking it to the next level, using the professional online networking site LinkedIn to pose as mentors to then try and approach women using the messaging feature.

Professional woman who use the app are posting their experiences on Twitter, with many saying that they have initially been approached regarding their career before the messages turn suggestive.

"The men on LinkedIn are the worst, they went as far as dictating to me what pictures I should put up if I don't want them asking me out? I was defeated." One woman tweeted.

Another compared it to online dating apps.

"Does anyone else get hit on by random old men on LinkedIn....or is it just me? I swear they're using it as another form of Tinder" she wrote.

Another said she hadn't gotten LinkedIn to avoid dealing with them.

"Ewww! I still haven't made a LinkedIn because I don't like randoms knowing where I spend 40+ hours of my time... but this makes me even more sketched out!"

LinkedIn responded via Twitter, writing "It's absolutely not acceptable to send unwanted romantic advances or other similarly inappropriate messages on LinkedIn. We take these types of reports very seriously"

The site encourages people to report inappropriate behaviour and introduced a feature that allows uses to block people in 2014.
