Melania Trump used the White House website to mention her jewellery line
Following Donald Trump’s inauguration, the White House website, along with its social media profiles was updated to reflect its new administration. Included in these changes were biographies of both Donald and Melania Trump, and readers weren’t happy to see what has been described as an endorsement on Melania’s page.
Her biography made reference to her past modelling work, and also read “In April 2010, Melania Trump launched her own jewelry collection, “Melania™ Timepieces & Jewelry”, on QVC.” Since it was posted, the portion about her jewellery line – which isn’t currently for sale - has been removed from her bio.
According to CNN, a Trump spokesperson said that it was initially a reference to highlight Mrs. Trump’s “entrepreneurial success” and that the line is not currently listed for sale. QVC also added that they do not currently offer the brand and don’t have an active relationship.
A spokesperson claimed that the change was made “out of an abundance of caution.”
Last year, Trump’s daughter Ivanka came under fire when she posted a “style alert” on her website featuring a bracelet she wore during a TV appearance with her father. She has now left the company in order to work for her father.
President Trump himself has handed his businesses over to his two eldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric - although ethics watchdogs have reportedly urged him to distance himself from his business further.
