Trooping the Colour: Meghan Markle makes slight faux pas

Olivia Morris

On Saturday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left their new baby, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, at home to attend one of the biggest royal events of the year – Trooping the Colour.

The event also marked Meghan Markle's first public appearance since giving birth, and the 37-year-old was certainly rocking that new mum glow.

It was also the Duchess' second Trooping the Colour. Last year the event took place just weeks after Meghan and Prince Harry wed at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

While the former Suits actress would undoubtedly be familiar with the proceedings of Trooping the Colour by now, Meghan made a slight faux pas when on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony.

When the Royal Air Force completes their flypast, it is customary for the British national anthem to be played – an aspect which Meghan seemingly forgot.

In the footage above, the Duchess is seen turning around to Harry and appeared to ask him something. When she turned back around towards the crowds and cameras, Meghan seemed slightly confused, which prompted her to turn around again.

Harry, 34, then gestured towards the Queen, presumably saying something about the national anthem, as moments after it starts playing and Meghan simultaneously turns back to facing the crowds.

As the anthem finished, the Queen waved to the public and smiled, clearly having enjoyed the celebrations. Senior members of the royal family, including Harry and Meghan, waited for Her Majesty to return inside before following suit.

Given this is only Meghan's second time at Trooping the Colour, and the fact she is from the USA and perhaps not totally accustomed to royal tradition as of yet, no one can blame her for the slight mess up.

We also have our best on the fact she may have been desperate to get back to her newborn son, Archie, whom she welcomed with Harry just four weeks ago.
