'The moment I realised I'd done the impossible: Met a geuninely nice man on a dating app'

The dating scene is tough. Very tough. And I've been treated badly by more men than I care to think about.

From the farmer who told me I was beautiful, then had great sex with me only to ghost me, to the city boy who talked about introducing me to his mother before trashing my apartment in a drunken rage about losing his job, I've seen it all, and then some.

So when I met Liam, I was cautious. He was good looking – almost too good looking for me to trust him. And he had a nice gentle voice.

He also had a great job and was close to his family, or so he said. I don't know who to believe anymore but he sounded good in the first week of chatting.

We chatted for a couple of weeks and then I suggested we meet up for dinner – nothing fancy, just a pizza restaurant – so we could see if we had any chemistry. We FaceTimed a few times so I knew I wasn't being 'catfished.'

It was a Friday night date and I was looking forward to it. But, during the day, I started to feel sick. I'd already had COVID, so I knew it wasn't that, or that's what I told myself. But before I even left work, I was throwing up and my work colleague made sure I got home safely.

I went straight to bed, with a bucket beside me and texted Liam to say I was sorry but I was sick and couldn't meet up. He replied right away, saying he was around if I needed anything. He offered to bring food or medication over. What a nice guy!

I told him he didn't need to do anything, but he was insistent and wanted my address. I sent it to him and an hour later there was a knock at the door .

My roommate answered it and said there was a basket of goodies, including chocolate, champagne and lots of healthy things too. I couldn't believe it. The next day I was still feeling sick – I suspected I had food poisoning from a client lunch I'd had the day before.

Liam sent me flowers and then during the day was texting me to see if I was OK. This was before we'd even met. I thought, 'This is really unusual, I wonder if there is anything wrong with him?'

When I recovered I called to thank him and he was so lovely, telling me it had been his pleasure to look after me. We met up for lunch and that's when I realised he wasn't too good to be true. Nice men do exist!

We are now engaged, and I wanted to share my happy story so that other single women feel some hope. Liam was brought up to love and respect women and it really shows. He is still taking care of me three years after our non-date.
