Maria Kang, also known as “Fit Mom” shocked the world when she shared a picture alongside her young children, showing off her toned body with the words “What’s your excuse?”

That was in 2013, and despite the public backlash, she has now shared a matching image featuring her now-older kids and the caption “What’s your reason?”

When the first image went viral, many accused Kang of “mum-shaming”, and bullying other mothers who struggle to lose their baby weight. This time around, Kang is giving off a softer message, urging women to focus on why they want to increase fitness. She wrote:

“After you address your Excuse, you need to find your Reason. 5 years later I’m still seeking the hard route, after all, in a country where you are the Healthy minority you must #dodifferent.

“You need to find your reason, your WHY for prioritizing your health.

“You know what’s right, just don’t follow the habits and lifestyle of the majority of overweight/obese people who do it wrong.”

Her new approach has clearly left an impact on her 75000 followers. Commenting on her post, one wrote: “Anyone who complains about the "What's your excuse" original is a weakling. You're an amazing person Maria!”

Another added: “you are great. And, your posts helped me get off my butt a few years ago. Thank You!”

The tough-love approach may not be for everyone, but it seems to be working just fine for Kang.
