Man trades diamond engagement ring for tinny after break up

A man who threw his fiancée's diamond engagement ring in the back of his parent's safe after their relationship broke down has thought of a creative way to offload the sentimental piece of jewellery.

Ryan Sperrer, from the Northern Territory, has offered to trade the "expensive" engagement ring he bought for his fiancée five years ago for "a small crabbing boat or a tinny" worth between $5,000 and $10,000.

The avid-fisher said he had been left with the emotionally-charged piece of jewellery since his relationship with “the one” started to go "pear shaped" and they decided to split.

"I've got to pay the house off and I can't afford a toy, so why not make some use out of it?" he told The ABC's Tales From The Tinny.

Interested parties contacted Mr Sperrer via Facebook after he posted the bizarre offer on a local Facebook buy, swap and sell page.

"If they want to be silly enough to get engaged then to give me a holler."

Mr Sperrer said he won’t be too picky in his selection as all he wants to do is be "out on the water".

He is yet to accept an offer.
