Man's $12,500 home purchase turns into half-a-million-dollar fortune

A man who purchased a hoarder's former home has discovered a collection of high-ticket items, valued for more than half a million dollars.

The Canadian property was filled to the brim with eclectic goods, including collector's coins, silver bars and a wardrobe of designer clothes.

Antique shop owner Alex Archbold purchased the home for $12,500 and began chronicling his discoveries on his YouTube channel Curiosity Inc.

Archbold soon found more than $536,500 worth of items had been sitting untouched in the property.

He originally purchased the property, which formerly belonged to the late music teacher Bette-Joan Rac, because it contained a grand piano.

Rac passed away last December, and the pair had known each other for a few years.

As he began digging through piles of boxes and bags stashed in the home, Archbold found everything from trash to unbelievable treasure.

"Little did I know that the eccentric piano teacher I had met was, in fact, a millionaire!" the antiques dealer told Bored Panda.

Among his finds were pure silver dollars and money dating back to the 1920s, with wallets "full of cash" and bags of gold and diamond rings.

He also uncovered boxes of designer clothes from Chanel, Burberry and Tiffany's, as well as a priceless ring inside a shoe.

Old records, a room of wigs, vintage cutlery, furniture, books, shoes, trinkets, ornaments and three sewing machines were also in the home.

Archbold noted many of the priceless items were mixed in with general rubbish; he found silver bars tucked inside a pile of leaflets.

"This was the best investment I have made to date!" he said.

The antique dealer promised to keep the grand piano for himself.
